Water Tower 1
In 1892, Louisville placed into service a horse-drawn Hale 55-foot water tower. It was originally housed in a converted residence at 619 West Jefferson Street. The apparatus faithfully fought countless fires for an amazing 74 years. Over time, it was pulled by three different motorized tractors, with the last being a 1942 Chevy. It was relocated to the new Fire Headquarters in 1937, where it remained in service until retirement in 1966. To this day, the famous apparatus has been preserved and is housed at the department's Fire History & Learning Center.
